About the Index:
The Black Watch Africa Energy Security Index (AESI) is a market capitalization weighted index comprised of the equities of 45 companies that operate in Africa's oil & gas sector.
Equities are divided into three subsectors: majors, independents, and equipment & services. Companies are chosen from Africa's top four oil producing countries (Algeria, Nigeria, Angola and Libya) which account for more than 76 percent of cumulative oil output, and 79 percent of cumulative natural gas output in Africa.
AESI was created in conjunction with the Africa Energy Security Monitor (AESM) to examine the impacts of political and security risks on companies and markets.
